Set the output from the audio track to the output corresponding to output 7 on the ES-3 (ADAT out 7 in some form or another) if you use a mono track. If you use more than 2 gate expanders you have to use a stereo track. If you are only using the ES-5 without or up to 2 gate expanders (ESX-GT8) you can use a mono track and save an output from the ES-3. This instruction assumes that you don´t change the jumper for the output channels, so the information to ES-5 is sent via output 7 and 8 on the ES-3.Īdd a audio track and load the ES-5 controller plug in. You should use the 6 holes closest to the red marking on the cable.
Note that the connection cable has 10 holes, and the ES-3 only has 6 pins.

Install the ES-5 according to the manual.
More than 8 outputs requires the Gate Expander ESX-GT8. The ES-5 controller packs gate information for up to 40 channels into one or two outputs from the ES-3, and then it is unpacked on the ES-5 to up to 40 channels. This setup has worked both in Cubase 6 and 7 in both 32 and 64-bit. If you use for example a Step LFO for generating gates, there are some more steps. It is for using the ES-5 for sending gates triggered by MIDI tracks. This doesn´t seem logical to me.Īfter having som trouble with getting ES-5 to work in Cubase, I have written down the way I got it to work. Very confusing.īy the way, when I wiggle output 1 in the ES-5 controller I get a response on the LEDs on every output on the ES-5, but when I wiggle the other outputs I don´t get any reaction. There is not signal from output 4 on ES-5. The signal from gate 1 (left channel) sends a signal to output 1 on the ES-5 and I can use that to trigger an ADRS, but the signal out from gate 4 (right channel) doesn´t make it to the ES-5. Gate 4 sends out a signal on the right channel, gate 5 and 6 doesn´t send out a signal. Gate 2 and 3 doesn´t send out any signal. If I send several MIDI tracks on channel 1 with different note numbers, 60 and 72, I can get a signal out from Cubase on output 7-8 from gate 1, that goes to the left channel. You can set a MIDI channel on the MIDI track, but not on the receiving audio track or the plugin. The ES-5 controller is an insert on a audio track, and in Cubase you can´t assign MIDI channels to audio tracks per se, only route MIDI tracks to plug ins that accept MIDI input. I have been working with synthesizers for about 35 years, and read many manuals, but I am sorry to say that this one I couldn´t crack.-) I hope someone can have some patience and answer my questions. You also talk about 8 inputs that I don´t quite get.

(the LEDs are lit though) but I must say the manual is a bit sketchy in my opinion when it comes to routing. Probably I have misunderstood the whole concept, cause I don´t seem tom be able to get anything out of the ES-5. If I take the signal from ES-5 I get nothing from the ADSR, but if I take the signal from ES-3 outputs 7 and 8 I get the above mentioned reaktion. Note 67 gives a signal of 128 and that is enough to trigger a ADSR. If I play midi notes 61, 62, etc I get a rising reaction. If I play a midi note 60 I get a slight reaction from the ES-5, the output meters says 1, and I can see a hint of activity in the Cubase meter, not enough to trigger a ADSR on my Doepfer modular. I have put gate 1 on channel 1, and base to 60. (I want to use it mainly for triggering drum sounds.) I have some MIDI tracks that are routed to the ES-5 plugin. I have put the ES-5 plugin on a stereo audio track that is routed to the outputs 7-8 on the ES-3. I have put the connection cable on the middle 3 holes. Now I have bought an ES-5, and I have read the manual (regarding ES-4) several times, but I don´t understand some basic things.
#PLOGUE BIDULE SEND PROGRAM CHANGE SIGNAL MAC#
I have used ES-3 with cubase 6 on a mac with a RME Fireface UC for some months now, and it has worked perfectly.
